Use the Urban Renewal Kit tools to design your own buildings. SimCity 4 (2003) was the second major extension the buildings are.Wrestle with various disaster scenarios, ranging from a UFO invasion in Atlanta to a nuclear meltdown in midtown Manhattan. So in desperation I thought, hey, it must have cooled down by now, lets fire it back up. But I a few months later I needed more power, and was out of money. I managed to avoid it by shutting down the reactor. The core - where the nuclear reactions take place - can’t withstand the rising temperature and begins to melt, allowing radioactive materials to possibly escape into the environment. My last one melted down because I got a warning I was about to have a meltdown. Customize the terrain any way you want, from flat prairie land to mountain vistas. A nuclear meltdown happens when the reactors residual power exceeds the heat that can be removed by the cooling systems.Choose from hundreds of buildings from the 1900's to the space age and beyond.Skinner and colleagues got around the container problem by floating a tiny 3 millimetre bead of uranium dioxide in a gas stream and heating it with a laser. If this game were any more realistic, it'd be illegal to turn it off! Uranium dioxide melts at over 3000☌, far too hot for most furnace container materials which would melt and react with the test samples. This is the ultimate classic Maxis city-building and management simulation. Customize different buildings or design your own graphics sets from scratch. Explore the underground layer and build subways and utilities without compromising your aesthetics. Build schools, libraries, hospitals, zoos, prisons, power plants, and much more. Choose from a selection of bonus cities and scenarios to rule or ruin as you please. It has all the features, flexibility, art, animation, and power you need to create an environment of your dreams. The reactor should explode at around 1500 degrees.Īs I stated before, this is still a WIP that I will (hopefully) be working on in the future. Now you can design any city you can imagine and SimCity 2000 will bring it, and its resident Sims, to life. You can track its progress towards becoming Chernobyl by seeing the RGB lights on the wall (which represent the temperature of the fuel rods) slowly change from green to red. I added two buttons that disable the control rods in case anyone wanted the reactor core to meltdown. ![]() Then just undo all of the previous switches- there isn't really that much that can go wrong here. There is no need to lift them out of place, and the reactor can now be restarted by just turning this button off. To shutdown the reactor, press the button to release the rods from the fuel assembly. Wait until the temperature reaches 100 degrees, and then turn on the turbine switch. In SimCity 4, a nuclear meltdown can occur when nuclear power plants operate overcapacity, if their maintenance has degraded over time, or if they catch fire. In the control room, you next need to open the coolant valves to the turbines and turn on the condensing fans. Use the pistons inside of the reactor to push the fuel rods into the core- they can get stuck, so sometimes it's a little more difficult than just dropping them in unfortunately. To turn on the reactor cores, just head into the reactor hall and open up the lid of your chosen reactor. But I wanted to find a way to connect the power plant to some sort of electrical grid, where the power produced would be available at several connection points throughout the map. Of course, this is a WIP- the power plant functions perfectly fine, and the power output can be accessed through an electrical connector on the outside of the building. So I built a new building, control room, two reactor cores, two turbines, and easy as that- the island is now a functioning nuclear power plant. And what better way to do it then use the power plant the game provides? I always thought Brinkfield would be so much cooler if we could actually interact with it. Brinkfield Nuclear Power Plant Now that the new nuclear update is here, we can all finally live out our dreams of causing a reactor meltdown and succumbing slowly to radiation poisoning. ![]()
